Ode on a Grecian Urn is a poem by John Keats written in 1819 and first published in January 1820. It was one of Keats's "Five Great Odes of 1819" which also included Ode on Indolence, Ode on Melancholy, Ode to a Nightingale, and To Autumn. Its inspiration is partly considered to be a visit by Keats to the exhibition of the Elgin Marbles and partly related to Keats's experience with the aesthetic theories of Benjamin Haydon, Keats's friend and painter, and his collection of Grecian prints.
